Mixland + MBTS - Mercaptobenzothiazole disulphide - is a medium fast primary accelerator for general purpose rubbers, similar to MBT but with a higher activation temperature for greater processing safety. In fact MBTS can be used when MBT is too scorchy.
MBTS has little tendency to scorch, moderate cure rate, is safe to handle and leads to products with good ageing resistance. It may be used in nearly all rubber products but as it imparts a bitter taste to vulcanised rubber, it is not suitable for use in the manufacture of food contact materials.
It is suitable for NR, IR, SBR, BR, NBR, EPDM and CR (for CR, depending on its types, it may have a retarding effect). It can be boosted by guanidines, thiurams or dithiocarbamates to achieve a faster cure and a higher modulus.
